Our House... In The Middle of Our Street
The price of housing in the UK continues to rise at ever more dramatic rates,
and is today substantially higher than even the latest numbers shown here,
but how has it got to this stage?
Looking at the chart displayed on the right shows the remarkable increase in
the average price of a house in the UK since the early seventies.
So, the next time your dad reminds you that his first house cost less than
that car you want to buy, chances are he's not lying!
Once the housing market stabilised after World War 2 there was no year on year
fluctuation on house prices above 8 or 9% until the early seventies when things
started to all go a little haywire! |
