A Brief Introduction To The 1940's
Our guide to the 1940's takes you on a journey back in time to a world that is so removed from the one we live in now that it seems incredible to believe the extent of the events that shaped this decade.
The 1940's was a monumental decade in our history with the first half dominated by the devastating effects of World War II, the widest and most destructive conflict in history. So consequential was this event and its brutal aftermath that it laid the foundation for other major world events and trends for decades to follow.
Immediately after the conclusion of World War II in 1945, the growing divide between the Eastern and Western forces set in motion the wheels that would escalate into what would later be known as The Cold War.
After such a brutal and bloody conflict, the latter half of the decade was dominated by enforced social upheaval as soldiers returned to their homelands, demanding government recognition for their sacrifices, as countless thousands of refugees sought return to their lands or new homes abroad, and as the slow process of recovery began to take place.
